The Right Cigar Lighters For Your Cigar
There's a saying in the cigar world that if you kiss your cigar, it'll kiss you back. However, if you mistreat your cigar, it'll bit you like a mean dog. The easiest time to mistreat your cigar is when you're lighting up. Believe me, if you light your cigar the wrong way, it will bite you back by ruining your entire smoke. That's why the wrong cigar lighters can ruin a perfectly good cigar and a perfectly good cigar experience. Let's take a look at the proper way to light a cigar and avoid that bite.
When you unwrap your cigar, one of the first things you notice is the cigar band. That band is there to help you distinguish the head of the cigar from the foot of the cigar. The head of the cigar is always closest to the band and the foot is always the farthest away. You light the foot of the cigar and inhale the smoke through the head. Most, but not all, cigars are manufactured so that the end of the foot has already been neatly removed prior to sale. If this isn't the case with the cigar you've chosen, you'll have to remove the end of foot with a guillotine type cigar cutter.
Once you've prepared the cigar, it's time to light it up. The only acceptable way to light a cigar is either with wooden cigar matches or propane cigar lighters. There are two reasons for this. First, using anything else, such as paper matches or butane lighters, will impart the flavor of sulfur or lighter fluid throughout your cigar. Second, it takes a steady and strong flame to properly light a fine cigar. A cigar lit with a weak flame will burn unevenly or go out. There is nothing worse than the taste of a cigar that has to be re-lit.
Propane cigar lighters are odorless and they provide the necessary strong flame to evenly ignite your cigar. In addition, propane cigar lighters are more convenient than wooden cigar matches, since they are easily carried anywhere and light effortlessly. In short, they are a necessary addition to any quality cigar experience.
