Cigar Reviews Can Help You Choose The Right Cigar
Cigars are a lot like wine. Creating them is both an art and a science. Enjoying each is a complex and deeply profound experience involving all five senses. Learning about both can be the avocation of a lifetime. That's where reviews come in.
Cigar reviews, like wine reviews, can help the cigar aficionado navigate through the many and varied cigar brands and types, in order to develop a discerning palate. When you learn how to recognize the elements that make up a quality cigar experience, it's much easier to decide what you, as a connoisseur, prefer and enjoy.
Good cigar reviews are not biased, nor do they condescend or patronize the reader. Instead, a good review will pass along basic information about the cigar being reviewed. It should be a who, what, when, where and, most importantly, why about that particular cigar. A good review will always seek to educate the reader and excite them to sample the cigar in question. Finally, a good review will allow the reader to choose for themselves whether a given cigar is for them.
The problem with any review, cigar reviews included, is that it discourages curiosity in the smoker. If a smoker relies solely on the opinions of others in choosing cigars, they will never develop an opinion of their own. Instead of having their own palate when it comes to cigar smoking, they will have simply copied someone else's palate and preferences and called it their own. That's not true enjoyment. It's mimicry.
So while you may certainly read the cigar reviews, don't rely solely on that information...sometimes you have to go out on a limb and choose for yourself! Read reviews. You'd be silly not to. There's a lot of information to be picked up in a review. But don't forget to go out there a sample, taste and smoke what you like best. In the end, the best review is your own.
